Words of gratitude from some of our sponsored children in Jacmel:
“Saying thank you is not enough for all you have done but it comes from the bottom of my heart…. Your kindness has changed my life”…. Marc-Hilaire
“…We cannot find the words to thank you enough. Every year you help us like if you were our sister, brother, mother or father. So many people donate but always expect something in return. You are different always giving from your heart. Once more we say ‘thank you’. May God bless you…” Mr. and Mrs. Langlois (parents of students we sponsor)
“How to thank for such a wonderful gesture. A simple thank you is not enough but it is a little magic word to fill you with joy for life. This year I did very well despite all the problems with the earthquake. Please accept my thanks as a gift”…. Christela
“My second mother; Life has not ceased to surprise us and you are the best surprise I have ever known. I am writing this letter to thank because you have helped my mother with my school’s tuition. Last January was very emotional, everything moved around us. We could have been killed but our loving God spared us from any danger; that is why I can write to you today. Mother, God gave me a wonderful talent. It is to be able to paint and draw everything around me. I am dying to paint your portrait but, since I cannot see you face to face, you could probably send me your picture so I can prove to you what good work I can do. May God love and protect you. These words come from the bottom of my heart” Anderson
“ I am sending my deepest thanks.... I have to tell you that this year has not been easy because of the earthquake but thank God, we are alive….I do not know how to express my thanks for all you have done for me, but I know that God will reward you for me. Dear benefactor, I let God take care of you”…. Vanessa
“…I want to thank you for your continued kindness you provided my family. Thanks to you I finished my high school and I will start at the university. Your continued support has been like a bucket of water found in the desert. May the love in your heart continue to grow and may God help you and protect all your life….” Ivan
Although each child in Haiti is promised free schooling by the Haiti constitution, the government does not have the resources to fulfill that commitment. Private schools help to fill that need. Although tuitions are low by U.S. standards (US $200-400 a year), employment prospects for parents and the low wage rate (often US $1/day) often make these charges unattainable. Both Fr. Jean and Bishop Chibly learn of numerous cases every fall in which changed economic circumstances in a child's household means that they cannot continue their schooling, despite their academic record or ability. In such cases, HBHH steps in to help.Faced with an inadequate number of public schools and dependent upon an unreliable and impoverished economy to provide necessary jobs to their parents, many children in Haiti need a stable sponsor from the U.S. to make it possible for them to stay in school.
Each fall, HBHH works with Fr. Desinord Jean and Bishop Chibly to identify those children who will be forced to leave their schooling because their parents cannot pay tuition. During the year, emergency cases are also brought to HBHH.
The future for all children in Haiti is troubled, but the future for those children forced to quit school is almost without hope. Parents who have lost jobs know this fact all too well but can do little to raise tuition monies when faced with such circumstances.
When such cases are brought to HBHH, we work hard to find a sponsoring adult in the United States for the child and often use emergency funds to keep the student enrolled until permanent sponsorship can be found.
Each sponsor received a photo and/or letter from their child each year. In addition, we work with Fr. Jean and Bishop Chibly to stay current with the child's progress in school and make that information available to the sponsor as well.
If you'd like to sponsor a child for as little as $17 a month please contact us or go to donate page below.
